FIVE MINUTES WITH // EMILY FROM SEROTONIN EATERY
This month we spend five minutes with the brave Emily Hazell from Serotonin Eatery. Emily speaks openly about her journey, including her battle with depression.
Are you able to share a little about your journey and what led you to be the founder of Serotonin Eatery, Exercise and Education?
How much time do you have? Haha.
My journey started when I was in high school and going through what I call “mood funks” I couldn’t get myself out of them and was suicidal. At 21 I ended up in the doctors office and they prescribed me anti-depressants.
After a lot of research I decided I didn’t want to take anti-depressants and I would go the natural route. Eight years later i’m still thriving and now follow my “Serotonin Formula” daily. This is my step-by-step guide to natural happiness and easy steps that anyone can follow..
THE SEROTONIN FORMULA
* Sleep eight hours
* Raise your heart rate
* Stop the stimulant cycle
* Spend time outdoors
* Eat fruits and vegetables
* Be mindful
* Connect with others and meditate
* Listen to music and dance
* Read and write
* Smile, laugh and be positive
* Educate yourself
* Volunteer and help others
A great day begins with..
Having had eight hours sleep, watching the sunrise, followed by my 20 minute morning meditation, a big smoothie and some journalling.
The last song I listened to on repeat was..
Anything by The XX! I saw them three times in the last three months.
The next place I want to travel..
India! I think the food is so beautiful and I LOVE yoga, so I would love to visit an Ashram.
Growth. Compassion and gratitude.
My favourite space to be creative is..
I spend time every year in Ubud, Daylesford and Byron as they’re my creative, artistic spaces.
My favourite Space to Create piece is
The new Loft Armchair in flannel grey! They are sooo comfy! I work from it everyday!
